Random stuff from January

Guess who made me breakfast? J did!
& he did a better job then I did.

I remember asking him that night, "J.. I want breakfast, can you make me some tomorrow?" and he was grouchy and said, "NO! I'll go by you Mcdonalds." I fell asleep really disappointed but I woke up to him saying, "I made you breakfast." :) I was really happy that day because he's the nicest, sweetest, boyfriend ever.

My eggs sunnyside up! I actually like over-medium or scrambled now.
I made breakfast the morning before and I overcooked the bacon. His bacon was much better.

You see my hair, I did this tutorial : Paper bag curls
I found her on youtube, and I love all her tutorials.
Obviously, I did horribly and it took me so long to put on and take off. My hair looked so ugly!! I think it takes practice.

I am a big carnivore, I knoww.. I've told myself to at least TRY to stop eating meat.. but I just can't. I love steak, and I'm a very picky steak eater so every now and then I'll make my own steak at home. It's so good!!

For those who live around Los Angeles, you can go to How's market and pick up inexpensive PRIME aged steaks. They have specials sometimes where you can get porterhouses for a mere $5.99 lb. The quality and price is much better then Whole Foods. I still want to try Bryan Flannery's though, but I'm still finding a good occasion to order them since the rest of my family doesn't eat beef.

Anyways, I put the steak out so they can sit in room temperature and I sprinkle the steaks thoroughly with salt. I let it rest for 15-30min. After that I add some freshly ground coarse black pepper and put it on a really hot skillet until it has a good brown crust. I then put it in the oven for 400 degrees for a few minutes. Let it sit for five minutes, covering the steak with foil. Wahlaa

I'm not really sure about the timing because my boyfriend usually does this because I'm deathly scared of oil spraying on my face!! I just instruct him and it always turns out just right. It takes some practice but the ending result delicious, juicy and tender. P.S. I think steaks are much better if it's undercooked instead of overcooked!
New york strip for the first night.
Porter house the second night, I wish I took some before and after pics. I'll remember next time! The porterhouse that day was really good, it was so juicy!
I made red potatoes from Ina Garten's recipe on food network.

Lawry's creamed corn. This recipe is so so easy to make and it's so freaking good.

P.P.S. I'm getting hungry.. again..

Flowers Again!!

For some reason everyone has been getting puffy round flowers. :)

Aren't the thumb fingers so kawaii?!

For those who bite your nails, please stop!! I'm not trying to make you feel bad or anything but it's really bad for you and it makes your fingers ugly. Chew gum!! Rub Vaseline on your fingers in class or something so you won't bite them. I've had customers tell me that they bite their nails so much that it'll start bleeding.

It's just every time I see someones fingers all red I just want to tell them not to be so nervous. I know people who bite their nails are usually thinking a lot or in this other dimension. I don't know really because I've never had this problem but I really hope to see people change this bad habit. Even during class when I see someone chewing on their cuticles, I just want to tell them to stop.

Now I feel bad for writing this, but I just want to see less people chewing on finger nails! Let's all work hard!

Benihana with friends

Posted by Jen Ko at 4:12 PM 0 comments
This was all the way from December that I forgot to post. It was D's birthday and she wanted to go to Benihana's, somewhere I would have never wanted to go if it weren't for her birthday. I remember going to Tokyo Wako a few years ago with my brother and I wasn't impressed. I never really understood the point of watching someone cook and paying more then I should have for the food.

Here goes the pictures!

These are my friends: Starting from left to right
JW, E, LH,M,DL,DY
and it was DY's birthday!

Both LH and I got Splash & Meadow. Funny names they have! We didn't know but apparently they charge you a few extra dollars if you want fried rice.

This soup reminds me of Taiwan's soup at food stands. I think it's because of the dried onions they put in there.

I didn't like the salad.

So these are the two sauces. One is for seafood and vegetable and I think the other on is for the steak.

He had to make M's food first because he had a flight to catch. But look, it's a volcano.. how fuN!!

look one egg on top of another.

The fried rice was actually pretty good. :)

This was ME's Hibachi Chateaubriand.

My surf and Meadow. I still laugh at the name.

E,JW, and DY.

Then it was time for Secret Santa.. I know, I posted these a little too late.

I got a gift card from forever and a hello kitty disposable camera (that I'll never use) from L.

E got a Guess belt from JW.

JW got alcohol from E. lol.

DY go a sephora gift card from DL.

Lydia got a Crabtree and Evelyn gift basket from DY.

M got some gift cards from me.

yeah.. I totally didn't know who my secret Santa was until that day so I didn't have time to buy him anything except gift cards.

I think I was sleeping in this pic.

Opinions on the food:
It was actually much better then what I expected. I think I finally understand why people come to these places with family and friends. It's a lot more fun when you come with more people. The only down part is the fact that my medium rare steak was almost well done. I was really disappointed that it wasn't more rare. It still isn't one of my first options but I wouldn't hesitate to go next time.

P.S. I will post about my first hooka experience soon. I didn't get it at all!! wtheck is up with the hype?? It was on the same day but J's waiting for me to eat dinner so I'll post it next time!

P.P.S. Take cares!! :)

Wolfgang's Steakhouse (take 2)/Vanilla

Posted by Jen Ko at 7:35 PM 1 comments
This is a very late post for J's birthday. We went to Wolfgang's steakhouse and I got him a cake. He is a big steak lover.

Hi Everyone! *wave*

I thought this was the best water I've ever tasted. J was at Fresh and Easy and bought it for me but for some reason the second time I had it I didn't think it was that great.

the bread basket was a lot better this time. The bread was actually hot.

This is what I don't understand.. I took J to eat stinky tofu hot pot on Garvey and he couldn't even stand it. This happened when we first met so he was a gentleman about it BUT not he would never go back there again. There, you see is Roquefort cheese, it's a kind of blue cheese and I just laugh because there's mold in it!! and they're both stinky so I don't understand how one can like this but not the other.
The bacon is soo good!! Thick and crispy! Wynn buffet has very very good bacon as well.
Steak for two- This time, it was lacking. Kind of disappointed because it didn't have the juiciness it did last time. Since it was new years day maybe some of the chefs had the day off?

German potatoes were so good this time around.

*I think everything except the steak improved. I think it might be because people complained about the lacking sides. I think this place is either a hit or miss but I still think it's better then CUT.
mochi my mom bought somewhere. I think little Tokyo
rice on the inside and azuki beans on the outside. My favorite type of mochi

J's cake from Vanilla on San Gabriel and Huntington.
I don't like cakes with mousse but this one was surprisingly good. It was a type of strawberry cake. Sorry, I can't remember.

Happy Birthday!

New Years eve/ J's Birthday

Posted by Jen Ko at 10:59 AM 0 comments
This is so late but I take too many pictures and I never have time to blog about them.

So for J's birthday we went to Disneyland and we also wanted to celebrate new years eve. Anyways so here's some pictures! Oh yeah, his birthday is on 1/1, isn't that neat? We also went to dinner on the first and I'll post those pictures next.

We bought are tickets there and we saw that they were offering annual passes to S. Cal residents. I think the package we got was $180 per pass and you pay $69 each person and every month they charge you $7.xx. I got them for both of us because I felt bad that I didn't get him a Birthday present. He insisted that we change the monthly installments under his card. I kind of regret it because.. how many times am I going to go to Disneyland?

I'm trying my very best to do everything in order but I'm so backed up.

I only slept for 3 hours, I was actually really excited so we looked so sleepy.

The first thing we did, of course, was eat. It was SO packed that day. I wanted to go somewhere more romantic but there were people everywhere. Blue Bayou was booked :(
I got the steak sandwich. Since there were so many people I had to go get seats first so I didn't get to pick. J said each meal costed about $15.
It comes with a salad.

The food was pretty good! Obviously over priced but much better then Universal.

By this time J. and I were so annoyed of all the strollers and moms and people. We just weren't having any fun and all the rides were about 2 hours wait! We got the fast pass for Haunted mansion. I think that was the only ride we went on.
yum yum.

Cinderella!

I thought that was the ugliest hat ever.

We weren't having any fun at all! We left, and went back to the car to take a nap but we woke up at 9. I don't know how we managed to sleep for four hours but we did. We were going to drive to a closer parking garage but we noticed that it was SOO foggy. We thought about it for awhile and decided that we should just go home. We made it home just in time for new years and celebrated it with a clock. lol.
