I'm finally not sick anymore!!

Posted by Jen Ko at 8:32 AM 2 comments
This is going to be a long post. I think I'm going to change my blog up a little bit soon, I'm not just going to write about my nails and food anymore. I'm not sure who reads my blog and.. I really don't want to know because I have a lot of thoughts that I need to express and maybe it's offensive to people but keep in mind, all of this is for me. You can enjoy my nail art/food pics but if you're someone who takes things too seriously.. please don't read any of my entries with, "random scribblings" as tags.

I think in Singapore blogging is very popular. The celebs in Singapore seem to be bloggers! Isn't that cool? I have to admit that I love Xiaxue. For those who know her might disagree with me but I find her awesome. Her link is www.xiaxue.blogspot.com . Many people hate her(as so I read) but I find her so funny. I don't care if she is fake or shallow or a bitch because that's what makes her awesome. Her life is much more interesting then mine and she's not scared to speak her mind. Plus, she always has interesting photos to look at. &because of her I've grown to find Singapore/Singaporeans very interesting. I'd really like to visit Singapore actually.
---

This might be deleted later if I feel it's inappropriate.

I love my boyfriend very much. Sometimes I wonder how I can meet such a wonderful person like him. How "I" can have him adore me the way he does. Keep in mind, I'm not saying this so people will envy me but I'm just scared of judgement. Anyways, he's the best person and very a kind hearted man(lol, kind of funny using that word because I don't consider myself a women...yet).

He's very supportive of the things I do and he respects me greatly. Sometimes my nail appointments drag until very late but he never ever complains that he has to wait for me in his car. He never complains about waiting for me and he would never make me wait for him. I think that's one of his best qualities. & at times when I want to stop doing nails because I'm so overwhelmed and tired he'd say, "Just call her and don't go.. you're too tired anyways." & it's nice for me to know that he understands. He understands that I feel bad about everything and how I care way too much. I'm really nice.. really sometimes I care so much about other people then myself. I put my "care" in all the wrong places& I'm way too passive.

& you know what gets me very upset? This question, "You're bf's white?" Do you have a problem with that? First off, I never liked him because he was white. & this is America not Asia, please get over it. It's not just about race, sometimes I feel like people degrade me and I hate it, like I'm not good enough to be liked by him. I've actually had people smirk in my face and I just wanted to ask, "Is something funny?" I get the evil-eyes a lot... and sometimes it saddens me because there are horrible people in this world that use jealousy and spite instead of happiness. I rarely get jealous of people because everytime I do I get angry at myself and instead, I turn my jealousy into happiness for others. Of course, my life isn't the best but I'm genuinely happy for others and I'm greatful for what I already have. Everyone deserves to happy, but the fact that people belittle me makes me angry.. not just at them but at myself for being so darn useless and letting them get me.

Anyways I love my bf. He made Christmas very special for me this year. I will explain more of this in the next coming entries.

& I, "LMAO" at online drama.

Everyone honestly needs a chill pill, people are too uptight.

It's a little late!

Posted by Jen Ko at 9:12 AM 1 comments
Hello,
I've been so sick. I haven't been sick for awhile and I think I caught the flu from J. :( He caught the flu from his coworker. :( I had a wonderful Christmas though. I hope everyone did as well. I upload photos from my mini Christmas later! I got great presents this year~ It felt like my birthday :)

This set is blingy and very Christmas-ish. We didn't intend to have this much stuff though but it ended up being very bling bling. :)

I don't know if I've ever used this much bling in my life.
That pop up heart is quiet popular in Japan!!

Swarovski rhinestones are the best. They were very very blingy. These pictures do not show just how *blingy* it was!!!

Soowon Galbi Korean BBQ

Posted by Jen Ko at 2:45 AM 5 comments
I know, I keep eating bbq but who doesn't like Korean BBQ. I could live off this everyday but it's too far from my house.

Soowon Galbi Korean BBQ is located in Korean Town where many delicious BBQ places are, but I did my research on  yelp so J took me here!! I find Korean Town very intimidating because service is so horrible over there. Honestly, not being racist if you aren't Korean you don't get any service. They treat you like you're an alien... but too bad I love Korean BBQ so I deal with it.

BUT Soowon Galbi has the BEST service for a Korean restaurant. I mean, the guys that serve and helped us were very very helpful and polite. They didn't just throw my meat on the grill but instead, they put my meat on one by one. Yeah, it made me feel pretty darn special that they took the extra time for service. Good service for me = VERY BIG TIP.  Not to mention the Korean boys there are cute.

Yes, I have a boyfriend and I tell him these things... so no worries.

the grill, it's slanted.. you see? It has real charchoal

These are the side dishes, I think they're called panchan. YUM
This was my all time favorite. I asked for more 3x. Finally the third time he realized it was my favorite and gave me 3x as much.
I think that's marinated radish that's sliced thinly and rice flour paper for wrapping the meat.
The salad was just as awesome. So by this time, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.
The sauces
bean paste, raw garlic!!
Beef Brisket - $17.99
So good!!
I thought we ordered the Sirloin - $27.99 but I think they gave us the ribeye instead.

We should have ordered the Galbi instead. I regret it, but nonetheless.. delicious.

This place is an A! It's cheap and delicious. They have special combos too but it would've been too much for J & I.

Look closely, do you see how there's rainbow colors under the designs. Too bad the rainbow got covered. :(

jelly red!

Posted by Jen Ko at 4:38 AM 2 comments

I was really surprised when this customer wanted this color for her nails because no one would ever give this color a chance and I'm really glad she did. Plus the fact that she didn't want me to do any extensions on her nails which was good because it's much easier. Her nails were naturally long enough for anything anyways.

Bad picture quality but I like the jellly red.

Simple flowers

I need to crop pics soon. I'm so very lazy, hope everyone has a great holiday.

Taco Stands ( El Monte )

Posted by Jen Ko at 2:26 AM 0 comments
Many of you may not know but I love taco stands. I really don't believe I've had a taco I didn't like. I mainly love carne asada(beef) and al pastor(pork). I don't think I qualify to know what "authentic" is but I do know a good taco from a bad one. Mexico is the best place for food, since one of my mom's best friends is Mexican I get to tag along and eat.

I was craving tacos one night and I didn't want King Taco so I decided to ask J to take me on a drive down Valley in El Monte to eat at a couple of taco stands. We only went to two because my tummy was full by the fourth taco.

When you're driving down Valley from Tc, you'll see this taco truck. I wish I wrote down the name but the truck itself was huge. I didn't know you needed such a big truck to make tacos.

This place was pretty good but the salso was lacking a bit. I wasn't sure if it was because we went a bit later but the carne asada was on the dry side. Compared to the second taco stand, it was .. "meh."

Now this taco stand was delicious, you see those grilled onions. Yeah, they made me so happy because I've never had grilled onions with tacos.

This taco truck is right after the really big. The size of the truck is  pretty normal I think and the people who served us were really nice.

The only down side is the environment. It's kind of scary down on valley around 10pm. I mean, there was this guy walking around talking on his cell phone and explaining to whoever he was talking to about how he just left prison for assault.

If you can go earlier I would recommend that instead. I know a lot of people are hesitant to try taco trucks because people are scared that it'll be, "dirty." TRUST ME, you think all those A, B rated restaurants are actually that clean, they are not. I won't go into details but you can see the people preparing your tacos.

I'll try to upload often!!

Posted by Jen Ko at 6:15 PM 0 comments
I will try to upload as much as possible. I'm over flooded with new pictures that I would like to share with everyone.

Me and my co-worker did these on her hands. Can you tell the difference between us two? Inlays use more skill actually and I'm beginning to really love doing them!

Seikoen

Posted by Jen Ko at 11:40 PM 0 comments
A few weeks ago I was craving yakiniku but didn't want to go to overpriced Gyu-Kaku or the long waiting Anjin. I looked on yelp for awhile and decided to try Seikoen so we made a reservation(remember to make a reservation, they turned customers away) and drove all the way to Torrance. I almost fainted from hunger. The place is very ugly and has HORRIBLE ventilation but I'm Asian, I learn to deal.

I wish I took a picture of the menus here because it was horrific. I mean that menu was greasy, it had duct tape on it and it didn't have much English. Want to give the menu a look, Check it out here : http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gzcBhks6yJIwkNGCFJSBbA?select=9Ggzg8BrHYRQ1Pye2IWw3g. I liked it though, it was very nostalgic and I heard customers begged them not to change anything in the restaurant.

We ordered the salad. I really can't remember how much it was but inexpensive. The vinaigrette was a bit sweet and tangy.

Beef Sashimi
It okay... good, but probably won't be ordering it again.

So since I don't read Japanese nor Korean I asked the nice lady to just pick for us. I believe we got short rib (front), top sirloin (left), sirloin(right), prime rib(top).

I wish I took a picture of the small cut grill we used. J liked the sirloin best and I loved the prime. The meat quality is great but I felt like the marinade over powered the quality. I would have liked it if they left it plain instead but there's a reason for everything.

Overall, this place was a solid B. It was good but not as great as Anjin. It's very affordable though so that's a good thing! I wish I live closer to Torrance.

Hopefully, I'll write down prices from now on and post them up. I'll try to capture more pictures without looking like an idiot.

My Nails

Posted by Jen Ko at 5:17 PM 0 comments
I thought I'd share my nails for the past month. :) My nails are always really simple but I feel like they use a bit more skills.

My all time fav are these inlays. :) I like pink/cute/elegant stuff.

I decided to use green powder since no one ever wants green. :)

My computer has been acting pretty retarded lately. I need to  get an external memory because I have LESS then 1GB of memory left. So, I'm sort of scared my laptop will auto shut down on me. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Happy Holidays!

Next up will be my food posts!!

P.S If I missed anyones appointment or phone calls please just keep calling me. Sometimes I don't hear my phone & my phone has water damage so it has a brain of it's own. :) Thanks!

I passed!

Posted by Jen Ko at 11:21 AM 0 comments
Hello Everybody,
I have some great news.. I passed my manicurist exam. All thanks to my best friend for being my model, I think she was just as nervous as I was. I have my license, it's kind of unbelievable because I've never been serious about anything.

Other then that, I changed my blog a little and I'm still fixing it. I just haven't been on my pc for awhile but I will fix everything soon. :) Hope everyone likes the new layout for now, credits go to www.suckmylolly.com !  I have nail pictures but I don't have time to crop them.

Here's a set I did a long time ago but I really like them. I really love the white/clear tip color. They're so pretty! i want them on myself!

I did this awhile ago too. I was so  proud of myself to makea  3d flower out of acrylic! :)

P.S. I'm meeting my future boss tomorrow. So nervous, I hope she's nice though! I decided not to use her name or the store name until it opens to keep it more discreet for now. :) I'm pretty excited now.

P.P.S. Who saw Twilight, I saw it twice and it was so good!! :) Rpattz is prettying good looking But my bf is too! :p

I will return calls Tomorrow!!

Posted by Jen Ko at 6:54 PM 0 comments
As many of you know, when it comes to everything that isn't related to nails... I'm the laziest girl you'd ever meet. I'm not lieing.

I secretly wish I can have a personal assistant who takes my calls for me so I don't have to call people back because I'm so lazy. My exam is tomorrow and I really hope I pass. I'll call everyone back tomorrow!!

Text everyone back as well. I had to write everyones names down and I have like 10 appointments that aren't yet appointed yet! AHHH, it's Thanksgiving! lol, if anyone would like my other co workers to do your nails I'll be MORE then happy to introduce you to them.

I'm so lazy to the point where I don't even want to talk, I wish people could read my mind. I sound like a loser.

I know, I'm the only nail tech that would rather not have that many customers. I just wish I had my own place so it'd be more convenient for you guys as well. I want to rent someplace but Opps! J is opening soon so I'd have to work there too.

But if I got my own place my prices would probably go up 10-15$. I'm so excited about my future, if anyone knows someone willing to RENT me a station or a little back room in a cute store PLEASE let me know!

Wish me luck tomorrow!!

Manicrurist license Exam!

Posted by Jen Ko at 1:16 PM 0 comments
Hi everyone,
I'm taking the following week off from doing nails, I'll get back to everyone afterwards because I want to concentrate on my license exam next week. I'm really behind, I actually thought it would be easy but I realized it isn't. I might actually fail and have to retake it 2 months from now. I can't fail though because then I'll lose my job. I really hope I can do well and pass, I just want to accomplish something for once.

Thanks everyone for supporting me. Hope when I see you I'll have my license.

I have to thank my boyfriend who supported me from the very beginning. The one who bought my business cards, made sure I had everything I need, he takes me to most of my appointments , and even makes sure all the necessary paper work is signed for next week. He lets me use him as a model and doesn't get mad when my appointments last till 12am. He's my biggest fan and without him I wouldn't be where I am today.

Flowers and Cupcakes :)

Posted by Jen Ko at 11:08 PM 1 comments
I've been so lazy today. I will call everyone back by tomorrow and hopefully I can keep Friday open so I can hang out with my boyfriend and get my hair done. My hair is so ugly, the roots are growing out so I look like I'm dirty. <- that sounds better in Mandarin.

:) imitated someones design. I'm really not creative as a lot you girls know.

Cupcakes, donuts, candy and hearts. :)

Momo wants to say "Bye-Bye" to everyone.

He's doing you. lol, I kept trying to take pics with my flash on and he got mad at me.

Kushi Shabu

Posted by Jen Ko at 5:21 PM 0 comments
Kushi Shabu is located in Little Tokyo. I'm really bad with directions but it's in the same plaza as Curry House, Kinokuniya Bookstore, and Orochon Ramen. It's on the third floor.

J. and I passed by this place while we were choosing where to eat because we didn't want to eat Curry House/Ramen all the time. We ended up arguing over places to eat because neither of us could decide so we opted on Curry House again. After our 5 min. argument, we both agreed that we would go to Kushi Shabu next time we were around.

So the time finally came...

They have several different choices from the all you can eat menu. We just ordered the $27 per person Shabu and I remember seeing that they even had a premium beef that cost $45. J said we would try that next time since everyone at the table has to get the same choice if eating all you can eat.

Our waiter was really nice and adorable. He always smiled and was very very nice and just looking at him smile really made my day for some reason. Rarely do you ever see someone with that kind of attitude at work.

You get the plate of vegetables, udon, and they even gave us mochi!

Pot of boiling water that you dip your meat in. I forgot to take pictures of the sauce. There's two sauces; one is sesame sauce, and the other is a citrus soy sauce called, "ponzu."

This was the beef. I have to admit it was better then I expected at only $27 pp. They cut the beef paper thin though but I didn't mind. J did though so I told him to cook two at once. The only problem I had was with their consistency. The first round of meat was delicious, the second round it was lacking a lot, and the third round got a little better.

They even served dessert afterwards which I hated. My taste buds didn't like brown sugar, red bean and fruits mixed together.

I enjoyed this place and if I ever had cravings for Shabu Shabu I would definitely come back here again. I don't agree with a lot of the reviews for this place because you're only paying $27 for all you can eat! It's a great deal and they should get more credit for it!
